Hair is without a shadow of doubt one of the best assets a woman can posses. A beautiful hair is definitely something to admire, and also, something all of us wish for.

The great news is that having a beautiful hair is not as difficult as it may look like. As most of all the things in life that are worth it, having a shiny, soft and luminous hair is about being consistent and dedicate, by working on it everyday.

And by experience I know so. Since I was 15, I have been experimenting with my hair. Of course after so many experiments without the proper care, my hair ended up suffering the damages of my carelessness.

After noticing the damage of my hair, I made an extensive online research, where I discovered some very easy tips that often applied, made a complete change in my hair, recovering from the damage it has suffered.

So that is why, I wanted to share with you 5 do’s and 5 don’ts for a beautiful hair that worked for me and that I’m sure, will also do wonders for you.

DO’S

  1. Moisturize as often as possible

I could say that moisturizing your hair is the #1 rule for a beautiful hair. This can be achieved by the use of different products which don’t necessarily have to be expensive.

The basic rule of moisturizing is applied while taking a shower (which I suppose you do everyday): ALWAYS moisturize your hair with the help of a good conditioner like L’Oréal Olio Therapy Oil Essence. Apply it through the length and ends of your hair and leave it penetrate your hair for about 3 minutes. Rinse with cold water.

Another way in which you can give your hair the hydration it needs is by using hair oils. Brands like Gisou, or Organix have amazing hair oils that will do magic in your hair. Natural coconut oil is also an amazing product, which is a total bargain.

Use a small quantity, of the size of a penny, everyday, applying it through the length and ends of your hair. Avoid using it on your roots because if not your hair will look oily.

There are other hair masks that you can apply once a week for a more deep hydration in your hair. One that I highly recommend are the masques by Kérastase. There is one for each type of hair.

  2. Brush it everyday

Brushing your hair everyday is really important. Two, three times a day would be even better than just once, so never skip this (even when you decide to stay on your pajamas all day long).

Brush your hair starting from the ends and then going up. Use a wide-tooth comb that will help detangle your hair and leave it soft and shiny.

  3. Use a heat protector before styling your hair

For those days when you decide to style your hair with the help of a hair dryer, flat iron or curling iron, never forget to apply a heat protector all over your hair to avoid a big damage that heat can cause in your hair.

Apply a heat protector like Protective Spray Heat Tame by Tresseme starting on the upper part of your hair and then going down. Use your fingers to comb the product through your hair. It’s really important to cover all your hair, if not it won’t be very useful to avoid damage.

  4. Get regular trims

Although you are aiming for a super long hair, it’s important to trim the ends every 6 to 8 weeks. This way you will avoid splits ends that end up making your hair look damaged, and as sad at is may sound, they can’t be restored once they are broken.

Also, a great hair cut will make your hair look more beautiful. Giving a great shape to your hairstyle will help it look more polished and healthier.

  5. Eat healthy

Hair is part of your body, and as your skin, it need a good diet to look as its best. Hair is made up of protein, so it’s really important to eat healthy to boost the beauty in it.

Eat lots of fruits, and vegetables, fish, green juices and healthy fat, like avocado or olive oil. Don’t forget to drink at least one and a half litters of water a day for a strong and healthy hair.

DON´TS

  1. Wash your hair everyday

An enemy of beautiful hair is cleaning it in excess. By doing so, you eliminate the natural oils of your hair, removing the shiny and glossy effect on it.

The best is to wash your hair 3-4 times a week and with a very small quantity of shampoo. This way you will keep the natural hair oils and avoid dryness because of over washing it.

  2. Use super hot water

As well as it you should avoid washing your hair everyday, you should also avoid using too hot water while cleaning it. This damages your scalp, drying out your hair and  This will only dry off your hair, so that is why the best is to wash your hair with cold water.

  3. Brush it while it’s wet

Another important point to avoid related to washing your hair, is to brush while it’s still wet. At this point, your hair is weaker and more fragile, and by brushing it, you can lead to breakage.

  4. Use heat styling products daily

If you like styling your hair on a daily basis, let me tell you this is one of the biggest mistakes you can make if you want to have a beautiful hair. It would be better if you try other hair styles that don’t need the use of heat, like an up ponytail or a loose braid.

  5.  Use synthetic pillow covers

The pillowcase you use in your bed has a huge impact on the look of your hair for the following day. The best fabric you can use for your pillowcases is silk. The softness of this fabric doesn’t create friction, leaving your hair smooth and without frizz.
